When I think back to my days at VES, so many memories run through my mind. Here are just a few:

I must say that 16 years doesn’t feel so long ago but some things have certainly changed. For one, my writing skills have improved greatly since then. I still have many memories of V.E.S and I would like to share some of them with you. Valcartier Elemtary School has shaped me into the person I am today because of its teachers, students and community. Therefore, I am grateful for all of you and for all of the memories I can now express in detail.

Love this book of memories! Certainly is a great project! I attended VES from 1974 to 1980, finishing with grade 5, as I went to Holland School for grade six. When I saw the picture of the school many memories of student and teacher faces flooded back. I couldn't help remember always sitting on the end of the bench for school photos because I was always the shortest! I remembered that "demerit" system and how I tried so hard not to get them. I remember the station wagon bus we had for the 5th Avenue.... Memories, memories!

As one of the *5* grade six students (the first in about 20 years) to graduate from V.E.S. in 1982, I do remember the transition shock of going from a school of 29 students to a class of over 30. However, in spite of the small size of the school, and perhaps even *because* of it, I found that we were better prepared for the demands of Q.H.S. than many of the graduates of the bigger elementary schools. Many people fought for years to keep V.E.S. open, especially in the dry years, when the entire school was less than 15 students - and I'm glad they did.
