According to the Eastern Canadian Messenger, taken from the Seventh Day Adventist Church archives, efforts were made to set up a Seventh Day Adventist congregation in the Valcartier region. Elder L. F. Passebois set up a tent effort in the village with the hopes of attracting enough people to form a congregation. Meetings officially began on August 1st 1917, Apparently, some were very interested in the movement. However, given that the settlement was small and that there were already other congregations set up in the area, they could not expect big crowds. In the end, it appears as though it was the Pine River settlement that truly took to the movement, as the Valcartier meetings seem to ceased much earlier. The 7th Day Adventists at Pine River pursued their activities for years and years to come. The Hill Crest Cemetery (in Pine River) is the only remnant of this movement. It is currently located on land that was expropriated by the crown and special permission is required in order to access it. |
